Sweet Beer Music

It's been a while, InterWebs.

But recently I found some material which I think would make a lovely technicolor post. Maybe. I've become somewhat of a sketchy person recently so I'm not guaranteeing follow-through on that one. Full disclosure.

Regardless, it made me think about dusting off the little old blog. And when I heard this commercial, I knew it was certainly time for another commercials with music post. Wham bam, thank-you Sam. Adams.

Overwhelmed by Tim Morris

Enjoy. Also, Sam Adams makes a good Oktoberfest. Free nugget for you.

Merry Autumn,
bRob

P.S. I hope this is exactly what you were expecting when you clicked on a post titled, 'Sweet Beer Music'.

Blogumentary

Song: Tiny Tree Christmas
Artist: Guster

Well, I am finally done with that whole school schtick and am back at home with the family for the semester. Which means, of course, exciting times for this little blog.

Not nearly as exciting as gallivanting through Europe or attempting to cook, of course, but it will be a good chance for you to see my family's hilarious hijinkery. This blog, then, will become sort of a documentary: an inside look in bRob's family life. A blogumentary.

Coming up soon: the yearly candlelight carol sing. My family is embarrassing and loud and ornery, as per usual. More on that later.

Sweet Songs and Snow Days

November was a very sad month for Conversations, and I hope you'll kindly pardon me. I don't have any legitimate excuses, other than the usual I'm so busy, blah blah blah, nonsense.

It's been a while since I've done a commercial with music post [...or any post], and I knew as soon as I saw this commercial that I wanted to share it with you.

Snow Day by Matt Pond PA

This song makes me want a snow day, and I don't even like the cold.

My winter music is always slower and much more melancholy than my spring and summer music. Winter mellows me, I suppose.

What's your winter music?

Czech and Mate

[i like to pretend things like that ^^^ make me witty]

Another commercial with music you might like, Webs.

Nikon Coolpix S8000 comes with great music, apparently...

Song: Welcome Home
Artist: Radical Face

I'm currently writing from Prague.

I was a winner and forgot my passport, so my ride had to drive across Munich in crazy traffic before getting on the road. It only took us...an extra hour.

I didn't really know what to expect from the Czech Republic, but so far it's been interesting. Most people will say that Prague is more Central Europe than Eastern Europe, but, coming from Deutschland, it's more Eastern-y than I am used to. Munich is a little bit of a fashion metropolis (well...at least these girls look way cuter than I do), but Prague is kinda old school. It's a bit more dated, and it doesn't feel quite as safe as Munich. But then again, I spent an hour on the train, which means...50% of my time here has been on the train, so what do I know?

Unfortunately, I don't know an ounce of Czech (is that the language here? I'm just going to go ahead and assume so), and many of the people I've run into don't know English. It was actually a little scary trying to find my hotel, because I couldn't find any street signs (what is this, a scavenger hunt?), and I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction from the train station, and everything was closed. It was kind of funny though, I finally decided to step into a restaurant on a random street and ask for directions. I asked for the street my hotel is on, and the lady looked at me and said, "this is it!"

By the grace of God, I managed to accidentally turn onto the right street. That Guy watches out for me, I think.

Also, I'm not whining...but...it's really bizarre trying to deal in a currency that doesn't equate neatly with the dollar. The krone [crone?] is about 16.4 USD, and 24.5 euros. Try doing that math in your head.

I'm here, in my hotel, safe and sound. Traveling by yourself can be a little bit lonely. I started to turn on the TV, but none of the channels are in English. Except for a sports channel. And hulu and fox and cbs and all those websites? They don't stream outside of the US.

So now I'm either going to be a sketchster and try and find Pretty Little Liars on youtube, maybe read a book...or maybe just go to bed at 10pm on a Friday night? I bet that's totally something they do here in Prague...

If you wanna shout a prayer out for my safety while I'm cluelessly galavanting [is that a real word?] about, I
wouldn't mind.
bRob galavanting.
daaaang, check out those crow's feet!

The Elizabeths

I got to hang out with two wonderful ladies today, the Elizabeths. There's Vanka and then there's Menzel [check it out, I'm featured in her blog ;)], a fellow blogger. I went to high school with both these gals, and, by the end of the day, my cheeks were absolutely sore from laughing so much. Also - it was nice to get the down low [hip language alert] on all the kids we knew in high school.

And also my chest was sore from the indigestion I got from the Mexican food we ate for lunch...I went to my dad letting him know I was having a heart attack, which he maintains I wasn't.
I though indigestion was an old person thing.  Maybe web, MD will be more helpful than my father...

Luckily for everyone everywhere, I found a bedazzled fanny pack.
Though I couldn't afford this glamorous accessory, I'm still on the hunt for the perfect fanny pack.

Vance, true southern belle that she is, went straight for the derby hats.

I didn't get a picture of Menzel. I'm still learning the fine art of how to work a [point and shoot] camera.

Anyways, it was certainly nice to get out of the house and hang with such good company.

On an unrelated note, here are two more commercials with decent music in the background.

"Race You Back Home" by Elizabeth and the Catapult

"I Don't Care (Just as Long as You Love Me)" by Buck Owens

sweet dreams.

Hipster Nonsense

I love indie, singer-songwriter, alternative music. I really do. Throw in a banjo or a ukelele and you've won me - heart and soul. But I absolutely balk at the idea of sitting through weird awkward concerts in pretentious coffee shops/bistros or dirty warehouses, and I just don't have it in me to fork over the money I am currently not earning to go to some over-priced crowded music festival held in a muddy field that reeks of marijuana and outhouses and hippy-dom.

In the words of Liz Lemon from 30 Rock, that's just "hipster nonsense!" (I tried really hard to find a clip of this on youtube, but apparently no one else thought it was as hysterical as I did.)

Surprisingly, however, commercials have come  a long away in the past decade and are now featuring a lot of singer-songwriter music.Cause I love you, InterWebs, Imma hook you up and list some of the cooler commercials. PS - I can't take credit for all of this  - some friends have shown me some of this stuff as well.

You've probably heard this song before:
artist: Joe Purdy
song: Can't Get it Right Today

This one is my all-time favorite. Heads up, future hubster: you should learn how to play this on the guitar and sing it to me when you propose. That's not ridiculous, is it?
artist: Kyle Andrews
song: You Always Make Me Smile

While this isn't my favorite song here, it is really great, and this is  my favorite commercial. Oh my goodness it's so adorable.
artist: M.Ward
song: Here Comes the Sun Again

artists: Daniel Johnson and Brie Stoner
song: Don't Fence Me In

too sweet.
artist: Jesse Harris
song: The Secret Sun

I know you know this one.
artist: Amos Lee
song: Sweet Pea

artist: Joe Purdy
song: Wash Away

Ok I lied. THIS may be my favorite. Sorry - I couldn't find the original commercial.
artist: Basia Bulat
song: Before I Knew

Subaru has the winningest commercials. I would buy a subaru.  =)

Television shows are getting better soundtracks now, too...have you noticed that? While some continue to play "Sweet Home Alabama" and Katy Perry's "Firework" on loop, a lot of television shows are playing crazy cool artists. Grey's Anatomy soundtracks (freaturing artists like Brandi Carlile and Joe Purdy and KT Tunstall) are always really bomb, and Scrubs was decent, too, before it went and got cancelled (I'm still hurting about that one).

Anyways - what did I miss? Have you heard any other good music on the tube recently?
